Sinopec Yizheng Chemical Fiber Co., Ltd., located in Yizheng, Jiangsu Province, is a subsidiary of Sinopec and one of China's leading production bases for polyester and synthetic fibers. The company also serves as a key enterprise in the polyester industry chain across the Yangtze River Delta.
Construction of the company began in 1978, commercial production started in 1984, and in 2014 it completed its equity restructuring to become a wholly owned subsidiary of Sinopec. The production base covers approximately 10 square kilometers and operates across multiple business segments, including PTA, polyester chips, polyester staple fiber, PET bottle resin, specialty engineering plastics, and high-performance fibers, with a total annual production capacity exceeding 6.5 million tons.
After decades of continuous development, several of the company's products have achieved leading positions in the industry. Its polyester staple fiber ranks among the world's largest by production and sales volume, its film-grade polyester chips have been recognized as a National Manufacturing Single Champion Product, and its PBT materials hold a leading share of the domestic market. By integrating PTA production with downstream polyester, fiber, and advanced materials manufacturing, Yizheng Chemical Fiber has established one of China's few fully integrated state-owned polyester industrial chains.
PTA (Purified Terephthalic Acid) is one of the most important raw materials used in PET polyester production. Its downstream applications include textile fibers, food and beverage packaging bottles, optical films, engineering plastics, and nonwoven filling materials.
As an essential intermediate in both the chemical fiber and packaging industries, PTA supports a broad range of consumer and industrial manufacturing sectors worldwide.
Yizheng Chemical Fiber previously operated two PTA production lines with a combined annual capacity of 1 million tons. During China's 14th Five-Year Plan period, the company invested in a new PTA facility with an annual capacity of 3 million tons.
The new production line officially commenced operation in April 2024. Upon completion, it became the world's largest single-train PTA production unit. At the same time, the original one-million-ton PTA facilities were permanently shut down, bringing the company's total approved PTA production capacity to 3 million tons per year.
As a key project supporting the company's industrial upgrading strategy, the PTA expansion was accompanied by the construction of a 500,000-ton-per-year PET bottle resin production line. This allows internally produced PTA to be supplied directly to downstream polyester production, reducing intermediate handling, lowering logistics costs, and strengthening the regional polyester value chain.
Production Technology
The new facility adopts the advanced P8++ short-process green production technology together with large-scale domestically manufactured filtration and drying equipment. The simplified process flow reduces land requirements and capital investment while significantly lowering the energy consumption of the CTA recovery system. A fully integrated intelligent control system enables highly automated continuous production.
Operating Performance
In 2025, the 3 million TPA PTA unit produced 3.149 million tons of qualified products, maintaining stable production above its designed capacity throughout the year. During the same year, the facility completed its first comprehensive maintenance shutdown in March, successfully finishing equipment overhauls and process optimization before returning to full-capacity operation on schedule.
Green Manufacturing
Yizheng Chemical Fiber continues to implement energy-saving and efficiency improvement projects, steadily reducing unit energy consumption. Water, air emissions, and solid waste discharge all perform better than both national regulatory requirements and original project design standards. Meeting international quality specifications, the company's PTA products were exported in bulk to Europe in 2025, further expanding its presence in overseas commodity markets.
Localization Achievements
Critical separation and drying equipment for the PTA plant were independently designed and manufactured in China, significantly reducing dependence on imported large-scale PTA production equipment and establishing a benchmark project for the localization of advanced polyester raw material technologies.
Reliable Raw Material Supply
With an annual PTA capacity of 3 million tons, Yizheng Chemical Fiber provides stable internal raw material supply for its polyester, PET bottle resin, and fiber production lines. This reduces reliance on external procurement, mitigates price fluctuations of PX and PTA, and enhances overall cost competitiveness.
Complete Downstream Product Portfolio
Using high-purity self-produced PTA as the primary feedstock, the company manufactures a comprehensive range of polyester products, including polyester staple fiber, hollow conjugated filling fiber, food-grade PET bottle resin, optical film-grade polyester chips, flame-retardant polyester materials, and PBT engineering plastics. These products serve industries such as textiles, food packaging, photovoltaic optics, automotive manufacturing, and engineering plastics.
Regional Industrial Development
The commissioning of the large-scale PTA facility has strengthened upstream raw material supply throughout Jiangsu Province and the Yangtze River Delta. It supports numerous textile, packaging, and advanced materials manufacturers by shortening procurement cycles, lowering transportation costs, and improving overall supply chain efficiency.
Centered around its 3 million TPA PTA production facility, Yizheng Chemical Fiber continues to promote energy conservation and carbon reduction through projects including waste heat recovery, water recycling, and variable-frequency motor optimization. The company has also established a carbon footprint management system to support the development of a low-energy, environmentally friendly PTA production chain. Combined with downstream short-process polyester manufacturing, these initiatives effectively reduce carbon emissions across the entire value chain.
Meanwhile, the company is accelerating the development of a digital supply chain by integrating production, warehousing, logistics, domestic sales, and international marketing into a unified data platform. Intelligent coordination of production capacity, inventory, and export orders has significantly improved inventory turnover and delivery efficiency for bulk chemical products.
Leveraging its high-purity in-house PTA production, Yizheng Chemical Fiber is also expanding research and development in advanced materials, including biodegradable polyesters, specialty functional fibers, and thermoplastic elastomers. These efforts support growing demand from new energy, medical, and high-performance protective materials markets while optimizing the company's product portfolio and reducing exposure to low-value homogeneous competition.
Supported by the world's largest single-train PTA production unit with an annual capacity of 3 million tons, Sinopec Yizheng Chemical Fiber has become a strategic hub within China's integrated polyester industry chain.
The PTA facility not only supplies raw materials for the company's comprehensive polyester product portfolio but also serves as a model for the localization of PTA production technology, green manufacturing, low-carbon development, and intelligent operation of large-scale chemical plants in China.
By combining stable internal supply with expanding international exports, Yizheng Chemical Fiber has established a mature dual-market operating model that provides a valuable reference for the high-quality development of integrated polyester manufacturers both in China and around the world.
